Maj (retd) Ian Mattison MInst RE
I am a retired army Major, having served in the Royal Engineers for over 20 years. I did this first on a short service commission from 1976-1983 and then as a reservist from 1997-2011. I served in the UK and on operational service in N Ireland (1978), Bosnia (1997/98), Kosovo (2000), Sierra Leone (2001) and Iraq (2005), the latter three tours as a
Civil-Military Co-operation (CIMIC) officer where I helped in the reconstruction effort in these war torn countries. The last five years of my military career from 2006-2011 were spent at the HQ of London District, Horse Guards, London where I honed my skills as an IT Information Manager and a Planning and Reporting Officer. I am experienced in Reconstruction Projects, Event Management and Fundraising and I have organised such diverse events as a UK tour by the Milton Margai School for the Blind Choir, Sierra Leone in 2003 to being a Founding Trustee, Secretary and CEO of the Soldiering On Trust. I have a particular interest in military history and I give regular talks on the origins of the British Army from 1661 to the present day and as a qualified Mediator I have been asked to deal with conflict resolution situations since 2011.
