Arriving at Horse Guards in 2006 I quickly discovered the tremendous history of this iconic building in London and I took it upon myself to research this history right back to the days of Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I. In September 2007 I became the military historian and led a team in support of "Open House London", welcoming the public into Horse Guards over a weekend in September. By 2011 this became a must see event and over 2,000 people would visit over a Saturday and Sunday. Becoming well known for my history talks I then delivered these to other military groups and civilian bodies such as the Royal Academy of Arts and some specialists courses. In 2010 I was even asked to give my talk to the staff of the Permanent Joint Headquarters who visited Horse Guards for the Royal Marines Beating Retreat Ceremony and in early 2011 to the Chief of the General Staff of the Afghan Army on his visit to the UK hosted by the UK Chief of the Defence Staff.
From 2008 I have acted as host to the annual supper party of the National Liberal Club prior to attending Beating Retreat at Horse Guards.
